Pooja Pittie's work has morphed rapidly since her last show, yet there is always an air of confidence and sureness. The paintings and knitted work in this show are work of a mature painter, someone who honors where she came from but knows exactly where she’s going. Read the full review.

ART & ANTIQUES MAGAZINE ARTICLE: March/ April 2024

“Bodymind”: Pittie ascribes to the idea of "body-mind" which reiects the traditional Western assumption that these two-body and mind—are separate entities. Instead, they are interdependent. Her work suggests just that. Each work of art is the result of mind and body in creative resonance. Read more.

ART 50 2023: Chicago’s Artists’ Artists, NEWCITY Magazine, Sep 2023

Pooja Pittie’s immense abstract paintings are cosmic in scope and her mannerly mixed-media pieces shine with gauzy blooms of color. Pittie’s practice is a sustained inquiry into the ever-changing relationship between her body and mind. A self-taught artist, with a MBA in accounting from the University of Chicago, Pittie turned to her art full time in 2016. She was a 2022 recipient of the 3Arts/Bodies of Work Fellowship and a former HATCH resident at Chicago Artists’ Coalition. With a solo show opening at McCormick Gallery in March of 2024, she is perhaps most importantly an artist unafraid to delve deep within to find the stars that lie under one’s skin. (Annette LePique) Read more.

GROUP EXHIBITION: “Matrixes: Small Works”, Kate Oh Gallery, New York, Aug 9 - Aug 27, 2022

Matrixes, related to the Latin word for "mother," originally meant "pregnant animal" or "breeding female" and was later generalized to mean "womb." Matrixes include any nurturing or supportive setting or substance usually within the fields of math and the sciences. The idea for Matrixes Small Works derives from ideas conceived of by Elizabeth Riley and Christina Massey. An inaugural show was in 2018 and curated by Riley at the Abrazo Interno Gallery at The Clemente, NYC. This show brings together female artists who nurture each other and connect through the lens of their personal circumstances. These artists employ their perceptions, intuition and creative powers to bring into existence new and honest work. Curated by Jaynie Crimmins. Click here for details.

‘As we continue to emerge from the initial period of global upheaval, we find ourselves in a liminal space – a transitory, in-between state of indeterminacy and ambiguity. We are neither in nor out of the pandemic and exist as a binary condition; a superimposed state of being. A sense of being in a waiting room with no windows’. Click here for details.

AUCTION : “by & for”, an artist fund, by and for artists, August 7 - 9, 2020

by and for was conceived in March 2020, as an artist relief fundraiser, for artists and makers impacted by the economic crisis spurred by COVID-19. Now in our 4th edition, our sense of community has never been stronger. The continuing crisis has only made it more urgent to find ways to channel our collective energy in support of one another, while finding ways to create systemic change through the work we do. We’re all hurting: from the loss of freedoms, of movement, of jobs, and in some cases, lives... and we understand that this scale of healing is no small work.

At by & for, we hope to not only build a platform to investigate the intricacies of artistic meaning in relation to collective health and wellness, but also to understand the underlying ability for the arts to effectively create systemic change. To explore how personal and social impact are interconnected, 20% of the total amount raised in auction will be donated to HEARD in this edition of the auction, while the remaining funds, as intended in the first 2 editions, will be equally divided amongst participating artists.
